We are on the public water system, which was okay, but we installed a PUR system on our faucet after we moved in as the water did not taste good enough to drink straight from the tap. Our tap water had a horrible chlorine taste and smell to it. In the Spring of 2010, when we were expecting our first, I wanted to have the best possible water to bathe our child in, so we contacted Culligan and had a water softener system installed along with a reverse osmosis water filtration system. When we first had our water tested by the professionals at Culligan, they used a TDS meter, it tested at 099 partials per million of dissolved solids in our tap water and 083 ppm with the PUR filter. After they installed the reverse osmosis filter, it was 003 ppm. We just recently had the filter changed in March, as it needs it done every year, with the trip charge and the cost of the filter we paid $168.

I just received the
ZeroWater pitcher today and immediately took it out of the box. I was amazed by the sleek design of the pitcher itself. It didn't look like it could hold 10 cups of water because it didn't take up much shelf space in the fridge. I loved the fact that you could pour out of the top and pour out of the bottom with the valve, which makes it even easier to get nice cold water quickly.

It was super easy to install the filter, there was no need to run water through it for 20 minutes before being able to use it, this was one of the tasks I dreaded most about using the PUR water system. I liked how it had the TDS monitor with it, a value of at least $21, according to a quick look up on amazon.com. The TDS monitor even had a home in the lid of the pitcher, so you always know where it is so you can test the quality of water you are getting from the filter. No other product out there is confident enough to give you the tester. I tested our tap water, well softened water from the tap, with the TDS and it showed 087 ppm and from my reverse osmosis system it showed 001 ppm. After I tested the ZeroWater water, it was 000 pmm.

I poured myself a glass of the ZeroWater and it didn't have a scent to it at all and the water tasted so pure. When I get a glass of my reverse osmosis water, I can smell a dusty scent, but it doesn't have a bad taste. It just this really odd scent that the filter replacement guy said was due to it needing a new filter, however the smell is still there after the filter had been changed. I will most definitely be using the
ZeroWater pitcher over my expensive reverse osmosis system for drinking water. You not only get a clean water smell and taste, but it can be nice and refrigerator cold. This is the only water filtration system that is FDA approved to be purified bottle water grade water. The ZeroWater pitcher also has a NSF rating, which allows the food industry to use it in their restaurants.
The filter has been tested to give a 000 ppm rating for 22.5 gallons, but it doesn't need to be replaced until after it reads 006 ppm, which is based on how your TDS rating is, the higher the short life your filters will have. The replacement filters are very reasonably priced for the quality and amount of water you will get out of them. The large quantity you purchase of the replacement filters the better the price, but ZeroWater doesn't just stop there. They are the only company with gravity filters that has a recycle program that allows you to get discounts off of future filters when you in their Filter Continuity Program. This means you will keep more money in your pocket, less filter waste in landfills and much higher quality drinking water.
