It seems like summer is coming to a quick and unfortunate halt. I am shocked at how fast July came and went. It was by far the hottest month yet. We live in the east coast in a small rural mountain town in Maryland. We are use to humidity and somewhat hot summers, but this one has hit record highs. With me expecting in October and having an adventurous 2 year old that won't sit still, we decided that a pool was a necessity But since going to the pool can cost a small fortune unless you are lucky enough to know someone near by that doesn't mind you soaking up the rays at their house, then you are kind of limited to what you can do.
One item we couldn't have done without this summer has been the 6' pool with slide. It easy to fill, use, drain and store. We had it out for play-dates with friends, when it was unbearably hot and our AC was out for a week, and for our daughters birthday. Then there were just the days where we had to play outside and it was just nice to have the pool there to wade my feet in to keep from overheating. The most fun pool accessories that our daughter loves to play with, is a bucket and cup. It is amazing how the most simple things can keep her entertained for hours.
We quickly discovered that it didn't take much to entertain her when we were up to her grandparents one hot afternoon and they gave here a few cups and a bucket full of water. She played for hours, pouring the water back and forth between them. We knew that she was either hot or bored when she just started splashing in it. To remember the good old days when nothing but a bit of water and a something to put it in would keep us entertained. I believe it is helping build her imagination, which so many children lack during their childhood due to the technology in our lives, but that is for another post.
I love the summer and I still in shock that it is going to be over before I realize it, but when those hot days strike, it seems like they last forever. With a small pool at arms reach it can make those hot days go by at least a bit cooler.
